1. Great Case but Protection Standards Have Been Lowered
I used the Otterbox Defender case for my Iphone 4S for about 2 years, and I have to say that my phone is basically still in mint condition. So i just bought an Iphone 5S and clearly went for the defender case again, and while it still seems to be a great case I'm slightly dissapointed with the quality of it.

Pros: The case is definitely less cumbersome and the the rubber doesn't cause the phone to "stick" in my pocket. That was my one quarrel with the previous Defender series, I once lost $100 taking my phone out of my pocket! I like that they retained the built-in screen protector and you can't go wrong with the double layers. The look is also much sleaker than the last one.

Cons: The plastic seems cheaper and so does the rubber. I think that Otterbox sacrificed a little bit of safety for aesthetics with this new case. It also might just be a marketing tactic to encourage more people to buy their "Armor" series cases. In any event, the case doesn't feel as...

2. Good, but not as great as all the talking-head bloggers profess
Hello all,

I recently upgraded from an iPhone 4, which went through two Otterbox Defender cases, to the iPhone 5S. I initially used a Lifeproof Fre' case but then purchased this new Otterbox Defender case because the Lifeproof was a PITA to use with the headphone and aftermarket Lightning cables. The first noticeable difference among the cases is that the new Defender case is much *thicker* than the Lifeproof case. It's also damn near impossible to take off the iPhone, which needs to be done regularly to clean the inside screen because dust and fluids can make their way through the opening for the Touch ID. (BTW the Touch ID is not yet ready for prime time IMHO. A thumbprint scan works for a little while and then I'm back to entering in long, corporate-required passcode. I'm considering getting an iPhone 5 case *without* the open hole in the screen to avoid the trouble of opening the case to clean the screen.)

The things I like about this case are the...

Otterbox Defender For iPhone 5s Looks & Feels To Have Been Worth The Wait
I contacted Otterbox just days prior to the launch date of the iPhone 5s and inquired when the 5s modified Defender would be available and the answer from the Otterbox representative was..."were not sure". It surprised me that Otterbox was not ready to take the full financial advantage of selling its 5s Defender case during the initial new iPhone phone roll-out week hysteria sweeping the nation.

A few weeks after the iPhone 5s rollout Otterbox released the Defender for the iPhone 5s. Before I bought this iPhone 5s Defender on Amazon I wondered if Otterbox had cut corners to speed up the production of their new Defender 5s. Based on my years long positive experience with the Defender Series I took the chance and bought it on Amazon.com. I believe that it was a good decision. Although it is a bit lighter and thinner than its predecessors it still feels like it will keep my phone very safe.

I have to admit that I do like the slightly sleeker design.
